Dr. Merawi Aragaw is a medical epidemiologist, an authority in health systems and public health programmes, disease surveillance, investigation and management of disasters, outbreaks, and evaluation of surveillance systems. In his current role at the Africa CDC, he oversees the coordination and capacity building of the African Union Member States for emergency preparedness, response and preparation of medical and non-medical countermeasures. Prior to joining the African Union, Dr. Aragaw served as an advisor to the Minister of Health of Ethiopia on public health emergency management.
